Frequently Asked Questions
We have a key for a key locker system, which means you give us a house key or a car key and we provide you with a locker key. We also have cubbies for you to place your belongings in.
There is no booking required to climb. However, if it's your first visit to the Ballroom, you will need to sign our online registration before you can climb. If you're wanting to join one of our coaching sessions, you can book here.
Any child under the age of 18 must be actively (i.e be on the matting with them but not necessarily climbing yourself) supervised by an adult with a ratio of one adult per two children.
When you buy a day pass, you are free to come and go from the centre as you please all day.
We have Ladies' and Men's changing rooms with a shower in each.
Climbers should wear whatever they're comfortable climbing in. If you have them, bring in your own climbing shoes. Don't worry if you don't have any, you can hire them from us. You might also find climbing chalk helpful to improve your grip. You can buy a variety of Rock Technologies chalk at the centre.
On your first visit to The Ballroom, you'll be asked to fill in our waiver if you haven't done so already. Then, we'll get you registered (£3 registration fee) and shoes fitted (£3.50 shoe hire). Before you climb, there's a short safety induction and form to complete and then you're good to go.
We have V0 to V8+ grades. Our V0 is our easiest. All the V grades are labelled around the centre for you to try. We also have a traverse wall, which means climbing sideways instead of upwards - it's a great way to warm up and can be a little less daunting than climbing upwards.
Our minimum age for climbers is 5. All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
The closest car park is West Orchards Car Park, only a one-minute walk from the centre. They close at 17:30. Alternatively, Bishop Street, Barracks, and Salt Lane car parks are open all day and are 7-8 minute walks.
